The red painted brick 1860 Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is the iconic symbol of Jupiter and the oldest structure in Palm Beach County; it was listed with the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The Jupiter Lighthouse is located at the Jupiter Inlet where the Indian and Loxahatchee Rivers flow together, on 120 acres of federally protected wilderness (Dept. of Interior, Bureau of Land Management) designated by Congress in 2008 to preserve and protect the Outstanding Natural Area/National Conservation Land (one of three in nation) with status of a National Park. The USCG took over operation of Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse in 1939, along with all US lighthouses. The 108-ft lighthouse features a first order Fresnel lens (most powerful) with a 24-mile range and 105 steps for visitors willing to do a climbing tour for the panoramic view. The Jupiter Inlet Museum featuring 5000 years of regional history, is housed in WWII era US Navy building. Also on the grounds is a pioneer-era homestead.

Another major feature and natural attraction of Jupiter is the Loxahatchee River System and Watershed that is a vast 260 sq. mile ecosystem including areas of Jupiter, Tequesta, Juno Beach, Jupiter Island, Jupiter Inlet Colony, Jupiter Farms (former Burt Reynolds estate), Hobe Sound and Palm Beach Gardens. Considered one of Florida’s most unique treasures, the Loxahatchee was designated as a “Wild and Scenic River” in 1985, one of only two Wild & Scenic Rivers in Florida (Wekiva River is the other). A slow and peaceful river, The Loxahatchee is ideal for kayaks, canoes, and boat tours to experience the river’s scenic beauty firsthand. Don’t wake the sleeping gators! 9 miles flow through Riverbend Park and Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The River has 3 forks that come together and become brackish (salt and freshwater mix) just before flowing out the Jupiter Inlet. Loxahatchee River Tours in nearby Jonathan Dickinson State Park offers rental of kayaks, canoes, motorboats, plus various tours, and horseback rides. Jupiter is home to numerous PGA golf professionals, other professional sports legends, and celebrities. Burt Reynolds is credited with “putting Jupiter on the map.” Iconic actor Burt Reynolds’ family moved to Jupiter from Michigan when he was a teen. He attended FSU on a football scholarship with aspirations of a pro-football career, but a severe injury ended it for him, and he transitioned to acting—stage, commercials, TV, film—supporting and leading roles. The films “Deliverance” and “Smokey and The Bandit” were highlights of his career. The 160-acre Jupiter Farms ranch where some “Smokey & The Bandit” scenes were filmed, was sold and developed into million-dollar homes after he passed away in Sept. 2018. Prior to Burt Reynolds ownership of Jupiter Farms, the property once belonged to notorious gangster Al Capone who built the original summer cottage home in 1923. West Jupiter was one of two Florida moonshine capitals of the world during Prohibition days! Other Burt Reynolds places in Jupiter include Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater (1979 to mid-1990s), Burt Reynolds Park, and Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum (2004 to 2012).

Burt Reynolds Park is a free 36-acre park along 2000 ft of Intracosastal Waterway located at 805 North US-1 in Jupiter. Burt Reynolds Park, dedicated in 1985, is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and houses the Jupiter Chamber of Commerce and the River Center (Loxahatchee River Environmental Center), 6 boat ramps, picnic shelters, and grills. The Park’s East Side boat launch is restricted by the US-1 bridge to smaller boats, and features lots of picnic areas with grills, pavilions, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball court, playground, restrooms, and saltwater fishing. The West Side can accommodate larger boats. Visitors can dock at the transient boat slips (24 hour only) and picnic alongside the Intracoastal or kayak around the island; look for manatees! The boat ramps are south of Jupiter Inlet. The River Center which opened in 2008 in Burt Reynolds Park, focuses on wildlife and river conservation and features live exhibits, aquatic tanks, and touch tanks showing the various river ecosystems. The aquariums feature aquatic life of the Loxahatchee River from Palm Beach County headwaters through swampy flood plains, then past sand bars and out to Jupiter Inlet’s coral reef. Very popular place with residents and visitors.

Jupiter and Carlin Park Beach located at 1375 Jupiter Beach Road features 1700 ft of guarded sandy beachfront, picnic areas with grills, picnic pavilions for groups (reserve), restrooms, and outdoor showers. Inlet jetty fishing is available 24 hours. The beach is a known nesting area for protected loggerhead turtles. Further south is the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, one of Florida’s most visited nonprofits, focused on ocean and sea turtle conservation. Rehabilitating sea turtles and hatchlings can be viewed in large outdoor tanks. The Center features aquariums in the Educational Center, a gift shop, and Loggerhead Marine Life Center hospital. Loggerhead Park is located at 14200 US-1 in Juno Beach.
Jupiter is also the site of Scripps Research Institute, a 350,000 sq ft state-of-the-art research facility situated adjacent to Florida Atlantic University’s MacArthur campus. The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience opened a facility on FAU’s MacArthur Campus, the Max Planck Society’s first non-European research institute.

Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter is the spring training site for major league Miami Marlins and the St Louis Cardinals and minor league teams, Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals.
Boats cruising the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in South Florida have some options for transient dockage in Jupiter. JIB Yacht Club & Marina is the only public marina on Jupiter Island. Located just north of Jupiter Inlet at the base of 707 bridge, it is the closest marina to the Inlet on the ICW. Features non-ethanol Rec-90 and diesel fuels, pump-out, ships store and swimming pool. Loggerhead Marina is just minutes to Jupiter Inlet. Offers Valvtect gas only fuel, pump-out, metered electric, water, restrooms/showers, laundry, pool, ice, and marine center for engine and pro repair. Features floating docks with about 31 slips. Largest vessel accommodated is 100 ft with a dockside depth of 6 ft. Offers dry and wet slips; call for transient slip availability.

Blowing Rocks Marina/Tiki 52 Bar & Restaurant on the ICW in Tequesta, FL (just north of Jupiter) offers a fabulous view of Jupiter Island. This family owned & operated marina offers annual, seasonal, and monthly slip rentals with wet slips to 70 ft and dry storage, 100 ft floating fuel dock with non-ethanol gas and diesel fuel. Marina features pump-out, bait, tackle, ice, beer, and more. Transient and courtesy slips for the restaurant are available.

Jupiter Yacht Club has docks/slips for 35-90 ft vessels. No bridges to the ocean and is one of the closest, protected marinas near Jupiter Inlet, south of Indiantown Road drawbridge. Only for day use; not overnight.

Bluffs Marina is a dockominium that accommodates vessels to 130 ft and allows liveaboards. Features floating docks, showers, and pool. Hurricane safe location off ICW a few miles south of Jupiter Yacht Club.
