Richard Bertram Yachts was established in 1947 by Richard “Dick” Bertram in Hialeah, Florida. The prototype Moppie was entered in the 1960 Miami-Nassau Race with Dick Bertram and Sam Griffith as co-drivers and Charlton Mitchell as navigator. The Moppie won beating the 2nd place Hunt Design Aqua Hunter by 2 hours. The prototype was sanded smooth, turned into a plug, and a mold was cast. The first fiberglass Bertram, Glass Moppie was christened in December 1960 in Hialeah, Florida by Pauline “Moppie” Bertram. Bertram’s legacy is their original deep-vee hull performance. Bertram Yachts has made the SeaKeeper standard on all new boats to eliminate boat roll. The New Bertram 35s, 61s, and 50s will also carry a SeaKeeper as a standard spec. Bertram Yachts have built high-quality boats for the US Coast Guard and Military over the last five decades.

In 1999, Ferretti’s first Bertram model was the 390 and was a 510 based on the 50 Bertram hull. The 390 was a three-stateroom model with two heads while everyone else was still doing over/under bunks in the third cabin. The Bertram 60 received a redesigned window shape and they become frameless in 2000. The Bertram 570 was introduced in 2002 and is a stretched 54 with a mawkish superstructure styled by Zuccon. The 570 received reengineering which included switching to a single amidships fuel tank. The Bertram 630 was introduced in 2003 featuring a spiral stairwell to the Flybridge with the MTU engine package, the 630 runs 40 Knots. The Bertram 540 was introduced in 2008 and is the first Bertram with an Aft Galley. The Bertram 800 was introduced in 2010 and is Bertram’s biggest boat by far. Hull #1 went to the Bahamas and won the Bertram-Hatteras Shootout XXX. In 2018, Bertram Yachts is now calling Marlin Bay Yacht Club as their homeport in the Florida Keys in Marathon, Florida. Two of the full-service slips will be home to the new 35’ and 61’. Also in 2018, Bertram Yachts expanded their facility in Tampa, Florida where the new Bertram models are being built.
