Tampa Bay is eastward, along with its many protected harbors, bayous, marinas and natural anchorages. Additionally, the area features over 200 miles of deep-water residential canals ideal for sightseeing the gorgeous estates that line the waterfront. And there are hundreds of miles of clear, shallow waters for nature tours by kayak, including the marked “trails” through the mangrove forests of Caladesi Island State Park near Dunedin, and Weedon Island Preserve near St Petersburg.

Just completed this summer, the new St Petersburg Pier now extends one-quarter mile into Tampa Bay and has been transformed into a 26-acre attraction designed to appeal to pedestrians of all ages, and especially the younger demographic that has increased in the Sun Coast area. The Pier with its green spaces, spa beach, and outdoor Marketplace of independent vendors, is a great place to stroll, bike, dine, drink, shop, swim, enjoy a concert and simply celebrate life with family and friends in a beautiful outdoor setting. Features of the new Pier include a playground, Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center (ecosystem education for all ages), restaurants, shops, St Petersburg Museum of History, and of course, the Fishing Deck at The Point.

The St Petersburg Municipal Marina is an easy walk from the Pier and located in the heart of the downtown waterfront area with its lovely Mediterranean-style architecture, world-class hotels and the Sundial St Pete (formerly Baywalk) shopping, dining and entertainment complex that opened in May 2014. The marina has 640 permanent wet slips ranging in size from 28’ to 100,’ a 500’ transient dock with minimum 10’ depth throughout, fuel, facilities, marina store, and a mooring field.

Another attraction of the downtown area is the Salvador Dali Museum, displaying the largest collection of Dali’s work outside of Europe. The Museum houses a permanent collection of paintings, photos, drawings, book illustrations and sculptured objects in the surreal modern art style that made Dali one of the most celebrated artists of all time. The Museum will be re-opening on Oct. 28, 2020.

Maximo Marina, located in St. Petersburg’s Skyway District, welcomes transients and guests to its 212 slips with 4 megayacht berths (max. 110’ length x 8’ draft x 23’ beam). It features a service yard with a 50-ton travel lift, fuel dock, provisioning, pump-out service, business services and much more. The Skyway District has shopping, restaurants, entertainment, nearby theme parks and other activities.
Lighthouse Point Marina, located in the center of Pinellas County is surrounded by restaurants and major retailers (Target, Boaters World, Thunder Marine) and is only 10 minutes from John’s Pass and the Gulf of Mexico. The Marine has 69 wet slips for up to 50’ vessels, offers monthly contracts and has service technicians available.

Bay Pines Marina is located 2.5 miles from Johns Pass and minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. A designated “Clean Marina,” Bay Pines, is safely positioned in a natural bayou anchorage out of the wave action of the GICW. It features 60 wet slips to 40’ length, 600’ of dock space, fuel, bait, ice, full boat service and a Tiki Hut. The yard also has forklifts and dockside wall lifts.

Boaters can take advantage of some favorite waterfront restaurants that offer dock and dine facilities. Here is a brief overview of a few notable waterfront restaurants in the Pinellas County area. The Getaway Tampa Bay, is a tiki bar and marina destination, located on Tampa Bay. The marina has deep water access allowing boats of all sizes to boat up and enjoy live music, drinks and a great view of Weedon Island Preserve. Food can be ordered from the several food trucks that stop by each day.

Caddy’s on the Beach (Indian Shores/Sunset Beach, FL) offers BBQ and fresh seafood. Anchor off the beach and wade in to enjoy signature tropical drinks while watching awesome sunsets from beach lounge chairs. Also located in Indian Shores, is the Salt Rock Grill, a more upscale restaurant with excellent food and outdoor bar. The dock located in back, is accessible from the GICW. Sea Hags Bar & Grill in St Petersburg Beach offers casual island indoor/outdoor dining on the marina waterfront in charming “Old Florida” style. Blind Pass Marina is on the north end of St Petersburg Beach and has plenty of space for transients; pull in and check with the dockmaster for a slip. Sea Hags is known for excellent food and service. Gators Café & Saloon is a waterfront sports bar in nearby Treasure Island, with plenty of dockage and offers a variety of food and beverages. Billy’s Stonecrab, Seafood & Steak in Tierra Verda, serves award-winning seafood and steak. Billy’s Stonecrab, established in 1972, was built using native cypress and pine and offers a spectacular view of the natural harbor, Hurricane Hole. Known for great aged prime beef as well as stone crabs.
