Yachts For Sale In Mystic
Mystic is an iconic New England village on the southeast shoreline of Connecticut. The historic village is part of both towns of Groton and Stonington, CT separated east and west by the Mystic River. To south are Mason’s Island, Noank, and the Long Island and Block Island Sounds. The name Mystic was derived from the Pequot term for large tidal river, “Missi-tuk.” Founded in 1654, Mystic became a prominent shipbuilding and whaling center during 17th – 19th centuries. Over 600 ships were built, including the fast clipper ships, during the 135-year span from 1784. The first regular ironclad vessel, Galena was launched in 1861 from Mystic’s shipyards. The whaling industry faded out by the early 20th century as whale oil was replaced by other fuels, like coal and oil. Today Mystic is a major tourist destination, drawing visitors from around the world with its many attractions and coastal town charm. Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium are two of Connecticut’s most visited attractions.
