Joe's clients (the buyers) are from Maryland and are moving up from a 47-foot express cruising yacht into their dream boat. This Marlow 72 will be spending the winter months in Florida and the Bahamas, a popular choice for north-to-south cruisers. Summertime will be spend boating around Maryland and north of Block Island.
"The most impressive thing on these Marlow boats is the speed," continued Joe. "My clients didn't want always go slow, like a traditional trawler boat. Most places around the Annapolis area in the Chesapeake Bay can be reached within an hour run at an 18-21 knot cruise. NAUTICAL NUT hit more than 25 knots when we put the throttle down. I couldn't believe how quiet she was!"
"When we got moving, I was sitting on the bridge at one of the two dinettes," he said. "I sat there answering emails and figured we would probably go 8 or 9 knots. It was super smooth and quiet. Next thing I know, I opened my Navionics app and we're going 21 knots and climbing. I was floored! I jumped up to the helm and confirmed the speed with the captain. I had to go on the aft bridge to feel the wind and speed. Amazing! My clients are very pleased."
The bow area on the Marlow 72E (seen above) offers a Portuguese-style bridge creates safe passage around the boat during cruising of inclement weather. Large cushioned loveseats are found on both sides of the opening hatches leading to the forward most part of the bow where your windlass and anchor are found. High bowrails are an additional safety feature. NAUTICAL NUT is stunning from every angle, however looking at her from the bow you truly get a feeling that this yacht was created with one thing in mind - adventure.
The cockpit of the Marlow 72 Explorer (above) is functional and versatile. There is a large beach couch farthest aft and additional seating attached to the salon wall. Recessed lighting can be seen in the flybridge overhang and teak decking makes it comfortable to move about the boat. There are extra-wide side walkways leading to the bow for easy and safe access. Marlow does such a great job not only creating a luxury vessel for longer trips, but they incorporate safety features into each area on board.
The command bridge is state-of-the art with the latest in navigational and informational technology. Two Stidd helm chairs are behind a well laid out helm dashboard and the picture0sized windows offer incredible visibility. Your guests will enjoy watching the scenery from the upper bridge while cruising in climate-controlled comfort. Moving aft from the command bridge is an exterior aft deck. This area has several seating options, as well as a davit and yacht tender.
The salon (above) is bright and open. Large windows allow in an abundance of natural light while also providing exceptional ocean views. Beautiful woodwork is found throughout the salon and handrails overhead give you peace of mind when moving about. There is plenty of storage found here including a wine chiller.
The galley on board NAUTICAL NUT offers plenty of counter space for food preparation and serving. Since most owners of an expedition boat such as this will be gone for weeks at a time, the galley is fully equipped with a full sized oven, microwave, plenty of refrigeration, and storage for your journey.
The dining area is found forward on the main deck and features a U-shaped sofa with dining table large enough for 7-8 guests. The room is surrounded with large windows and a door leading to the starboard side walkway. An interior helm is also found starboard on a raised platform with complete controls, including a joystick for easy docking.
This particular Marlow 72E has a great open layout that includes 3 spacious, comfortable staterooms and 3 heads. There is also a crew quarters and head should you choose to hire a captain. The master suite features an island king-sized berth and en suite bathroom. There is plenty of closet space and storage throughout each cabin, but especially in the master. The VIP suite is found forward with a queen-sized berth and the third guest cabin has side-by-side double beds. Multiple portholes are found in each cabin for excellent lower deck ventilation.
This Marlow 72E is powered with twin Caterpillar 3412 1400HP engines and the engine room was incredibly clean. NAUTICAL NUT was also outfitted with the Side Power Zero Speed Fin Stabilizer and proprietary Velocijet Strut Keels for unbelievable performance in sea conditions. There were just over 1,600 hours on the engines at the time of sale.
