The idea for Valhalla Boatworks goes back to the early 2000s when two long-time members of the Viking Yacht design team, Don Gemmel and Patrick Healey (son of co-founder, Bill Healey) wanted to develop a line of Center Console boats as an extension of the successful Viking Yacht sportfishing yacht brand. The plan was put on hold for a better economic climate and about 10 years later revived by Bill Healey and his grandson, Sean, and they began researching boatyard sites in New Jersey. But it wasn’t until 2018 that it all came together when the Viking team met with Michael Peters of Michael Peters Yacht Design (Sarasota, FL) at the Miami Boat Show.

Having worked with renowned designer Michael Peters on the Viking Motor Yachts (75MY, 82MY, 93MY), it was an easy decision to team with him in developing a high-performance center console using Michael’s patented double-stepped hull design. The Valhalla Boatworks team also included Viking Mullica General Manager John Leek IV, great grandson of John Leek who co-founded Egg Harbor Yachts in 1946 as one of the original “Jersey Boys” boatbuilders. John Leek IV had also founded Ocean Yachts at the Mullica facility that became Viking Mullica in 2016 and is the site of Valhalla Boatworks production—only 12 miles from Viking’s New Gretna, New Jersey headquarters.

The Valhalla Boatworks leadership team of Don Gemmel, the Healeys, John Leek IV, Lonni Rutt (Viking VP of Design & Engineering), David Wilson (Design Manager), and Ryan Higgins (Viking Southeast Sales Manager), along with Viking’s production facilities (nearly every component and part is made in-house), advanced technologies, and highly skilled experience boatbuilders, are focused on producing “the finest center consoles that money can buy.” With a goal of establishing Valhalla Boatworks as a leading producer of semi-custom, high-performance luxury center consoles, Viking has ensured the Valhalla Boatworks (VBW) V Series—V-33, V-37, V-41, and V-46 deliver the same superlative qualities of performance, engineering, comfort, attention to detail, and fishability established by the world-renowned Viking brand. The Valhalla Center Consoles are ideal for hardcore offshore fishing, as family sport cruisers, or as high-end yacht tenders.

The Michael Peters two-step hull with centerline tunnel provides solid performance and handling, allowing the V-46 to cut a tight turn and “do laps around the fastest Viking convertible” with quad 450-hp Mercury Racing V-8 outboards that top out at 60+ knots. Loaded with features such as a large, air-conditioned helm station with a black acrylic helm panel displaying three flush-mounted Garmin screens, three Release Marine seats, and four air-conditioned seats mounted slightly higher than the helm chairs with stowage compartments for tackle built into the bases.

Fiberglass hardtop with polished aluminum supports has a teaser reel compartment and electronic box built into the overhead, six rod holders, spreader and overhead lights, and a radar antenna pod. Valhalla Boatworks offers an optional ProCurve solid curved-glass windshield that follows the console contour. Helm area is well-protected from sun, wind, and spray. Besides the seven helm seats, the V-46 is loaded with bench seating (removeable backrest) in the bow, a large ergonomically contoured sunpad on the forward console, aft facing mezzanine seating and optional integrated lift-up transom seats—ideal for island hopping excursions. Two 50-gallon livewells are built into the transom; fish boxes and plentiful storage for rods, gaffs, and other equipment are thoughtfully built-in for a clean deck. Three teak steps lead down into the cabin with 6’7” headroom in the galley, upon entry. Forward seating with V-shaped table converts to a queen berth. Stand-up machinery room has 6-ft standing height for easy access to maintain or service helm wiring, 8kW generator, batteries, water heater, pumps, and more. The V-46 is feature-rich to meet or exceed a spectrum of customer desires, with options available for further customization of new builds.
