Learn More About Freeman And Find Your Next Boat

Billy Freeman, an offshore fishing enthusiast, was frustrated by a lack of fishing boats he could afford that could handle the range of weather and sea conditions out of Charleston. He envisioned a boat that could conquer rough seas with the stability and other advantages of a catamaran and assembled a team to pursue his dream. The major disadvantages he found with catamarans are the lack of speed and quirky handling, especially in following seas. Working with Jesse Rhodes of Rhodes Yacht Design, Billy and his team redesigned the catamaran hull from the ground up to transform it into a performance fishing catamaran. His first boat was hand built in his garage in 2007, which led to founding a company, Freeman Boatworks, to fulfill demand for the high-quality custom fishing boats. The first redesigned catamaran was tested in Venice, Louisiana by a charter fishing company known to be hard on boats, that put the original Freeman 33 through its paces in the Gulf—and they loved it! Finally, a great handling fishing catamaran with speed!

More than a decade later, Freeman Boatworks continues its commitment to build the best offshore fishing boats, improving fuel economy, speed, and any other innovation to enhance the offshore experience. The materials and construction standards are the best in the industry, exceeding Marine industry manufacturing standards. The custom catamaran hulls are designed to safely and comfortably handle the waters off of the Carolina coast, even in seas and weather that keep other center consoles inshore. Every Freeman is constructed with biaxial and triaxial fiberglass and vinylester resin using closed cell structural core for excellent strength with reduced weight.

The hull design utilizes a two-step vented hull state-of-the-art technology that originated with performance racing boats and has since been utilized in monohulls and superyachts for greater speed and efficiency benefits. Freeman’s vented hull technology has set a new standard for 36-42ft catamaran center console fishing boats in speed, comfort, and fishability. The new design of the Freeman fishing catamaran is spacious and provides a fast, dry, stable ride running or drifting in heavy seas and at anchor. The engines and electronics are top line making Freeman Boatworks the fishing platform choice of premium fishing charters for their durability, high level of comfort, superior offshore performance, and fishability. Draft ranges from 18” (34VH) to 24” (42LR) for fishing skinny waters like around the Keys.

Freeman Boatworks currently has 3 models of offshore twin hull saltwater fishing center consoles with a hardtop that are built to take on ocean conditions or cruise through a bay at 80 mph! Slicing through waves at blistering speed without the spine-jarring jolt has been proven to take captain and crew to destination 2x faster than regular monohull and catamaran center consoles. Freeman custom catamarans are dedicated fishing machines, not cruising yachts, and are purpose-built for serious offshore fishing—tournament, recreational, and premier charters.
