Yachts For Sale In Somers Point

Located on Great Egg Harbor Bay on the South Jersey Shore, this 4-square-mile, mostly residential town, is the oldest settlement in New Jersey’s Atlantic County. Somers Point, named for John Somers, was first settled in 1693, incorporated as a borough in 1886 and then became a city in 1902. Historic Somers Mansion, a 2-story brick house that was built in 1725 by John Somers son, Richard, is the oldest existing home in Atlantic County. It was acquired by the city in 1937 and displays the furnishings and décor of the 18th century and is available for tours. The Historic Bay District is an enclave of over 200 resort-style buildings, seaside cottages, and bungalows of modest size built between 1890 – 1935 when transportation infrastructure facilitated access to the area. This District has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 for the historic significance and the good condition of the buildings.

Somers Point is connected to barrier Absecon Island by bridge and the excitement of Atlantic City is only a 14 miles drive away. State Route 52 crosses from Somers Point over the Bay and Rainbow Island to 9th Street in Ocean City, an easy 5 to 10-minute drive to “America’s Family Resort” Boardwalk. This recently (2013) constructed Causeway features a 2.2-mile pedestrian walkway/bike trail that is separated from vehicular traffic across the two 9th Street Bridges. High fixed bridges allow vessels to pass through the channels below. A Visitors Center was built on the Ocean City side of the Causeway, along with 4 fishing piers. Somers Point features a boat ramp and boardwalk as part of the bridge complex.

The waters surrounding Somers Point are known to be some of the best on the Jersey Shore for crabbing! In fact, the volume of crabbing exceeds recreational fishing catches of bluefish, founder, black sea bass, and striped bass, which are also plentiful in the area. The Rt 52 Causeway Fishing Pier is a popular spot for crabbing and fishing. The four piers are within the 2.2-mile span of bridge across the bay and wetlands. The “Assault on Patcong Creek Crabbing Tournament & BBQ” is an on-the-water event held annually in June. Other popular crabbing locations are Great Egg Harbor River, Middle River, Tuckahoe River, Tuckahoe-Corbin City Fish & Wildlife Management Area, Peck Bay, Steelman Bay, and Scull Bay.

Harbour Cove Marina on Bay Avenue is near the Historic Bay District of Somers Point. The 415-slip marina features easy access to the Great Egg Harbor Inlet and Atlantic Ocean and is a storm-protected, state of the art waterfront complex with a 200-ft floating fuel dock (gas and diesel) that is only 10 miles southwest of Atlantic City. Floating dock slips can accommodate boats 22 to 60-ft in length with 300amp and 50amp electric, in deep water with no wake or tide. Features an onsite restaurant, and a full range of services and amenities. Open year-round with transient slips available—use Dockwa.com for slip reservations. Two man-made basins offer “Hurricane Hole” protection.
