REGULUS is a very nice example of the popular Hinckley Sou’wester 51 that has been continuously cared for and upgraded by her current owner of 20 years. She was built with the desirable two cabin, two head layout and features like her carbon mast and furling boom. Her centerboard keel and spade rudder improve her maneuverability and give her access to harbors that would be off limits for boats with a deeper fixed keel. Always stored inside heated and serviced by some of the best yards in the Northeast, Regulus has just finished up her winter maintenance and is headed to the water for the season, ready for her next owner.
HULL: The hull is constructed from a hand laid laminate of vinylester resin reinforced with knit hybrid fabric of Kevlar/E-glass configuration. A core of cross linked PVC foam is sandwiched between the outer and inner portions of the laminate effectively creating two FRP skins connected by a foam core. The foam is used to make the hull thicker which reduces local skin deflection without adding significant weight. Vinylester resin is used to resist blistering. The foam core is removed, and the hull is reinforced with additional layers of fiberglass in areas such as the hull/deck connecting flange, centerline, keel, chainplates, rudder post, and all thru-hull fittings.
DECK: The deck is constructed from vinylester resin and Kevlar/E-glass knit fabrics with a PVC foam core. It was laminated via the SCRIMP process. This laminating technique utilizes a resin infusion system and vacuum bagging, resulting in very high strength-to-weight ratio laminates. High density core is used as reinforcement under high load areas such as genoa tracks, etc. The core is eliminated entirely under very high load points such as primary winch pads and hull deck flanges. These areas receive additional laminations to ensure that adequate strength as well as compressive qualities are maintained.
Cockpit:
The cockpit is as you would expect it, with no significant modifications from standard - and there shouldn't be. It is ultra functional and well laid out for comfortable and safe cruising and sailing.

The layout of REGULUS sets her apart from many of her sister ships. This boat has an interior designed to be useful both offshore and when coastal cruising.
Going down the companionway, one finds a full Nav-station to port, where the navigator can freely communicate with the cockpit. Aft of the Nav station is the navigator's quarter berth. The engine is under the companionway, the location (preferred by many over the SW52's location in the salon).
Opposite to port is a large and commodious quarter cabin with its own en-suite head and separate stall shower. This is a decadent owner's or guest quarters - your pick.
Forward of the Nav-station is the U-shaped galley which is fully equipped and properly set-up for offshore meal prep and gourmet cooking when desired. Galley space extends across the center line to elegant storage on the port side.
Next forward one finds the full-beam salon, with a u-shaped settee to port, a straight settee to starboard and a center line drop leaf table that will seat the entire crew and maybe even a few more. There are lee-clothes port and starboard for offshore.
Forward to port is the second head, with access from the salon or from the private forward cabin, and storage opposite.
And finally the forward cabin - which can serve as the master cabin or the VIP suite - it is large, with excellent elbow room, light and storage.
The entire interior is finished with the incredible craftsmanship you expect in a Hinckley, using Cherry with a teak and holly sole. All doors are oval topped. The salon upholstery is a rich Navy Blue leather. The headliner is a solid surface, white, with Cherry trim and everything is in spectacular condition.
