This 2012 Tartan 4000 is a rare opportunity to own a meticulously maintained performance cruiser that blends classic craftsmanship with modern sailing technology.
Lovingly cared for and always stored indoors in a heated facility, Chapter 9 reflects exceptional attention to upkeep and is turnkey-ready for her next owner. Built by Tartan Yachts and designed by Tim Jackett, this 40’ aft-cockpit sloop features a beautifully varnished cherry interior, solid teak and holly sole, and the kind of intelligent design that makes Tartan one of the most respected American builders afloat.
A hallmark of the Tartan 4000 is its advanced construction: CCR (Cruise Control Rig) with a carbon fiber mast and pocket boom with new stackpack, infused epoxy hull and deck, and a 6,750-lb beavertail keel with low center of gravity—all engineered for smooth, stable, and efficient cruising.
Down below, she offers a forward owner's stateroom with island berth, ample cabinetry, and a private head with stall shower. Aft, a second stateroom complements the convertible salon dinette and navigation station. The spacious U-shaped galley is equipped with a gimbaled three-burner stove and oven, built-in refrigerator, deep double sink, and extensive counter space—perfect for preparing meals at anchor or underway.
The main salon features a large drop-leaf table with comfortable seating for eight, gorgeous wood joinery, and elegant lighting that gives the space a warm, inviting atmosphere. Natural light and ventilation are exceptional thanks to stainless steel hatches, portlights, and dorades.
Topsides, wide decks with inboard shrouds and molded bulwarks make movement safe and easy. The twin-wheel cockpit with teak table and aft swim platform ensures comfort under sail or at anchor. Equipped with five electric self-tailing winches (one on the cabin top and four in the cockpit), Harken hardware, and a mid-boom sheeting system, Chapter 9 is designed for ease of handling.
Power comes from a dependable 55-hp Volvo Penta diesel with low hours (585), recently serviced. She’s rigged with a double-spreader system and oversized stainless steel rigging for reliable performance.
Chapter 9's sail plan includes original sailplan including fully battened main, self tacking jib, & reacher, as well as upgraded high performance North Sails 3di mainsail, 135 genoa, 3di self tacking jib, A2 Asymmetric spinnaker, & gennaker.
