The Transpac 49 was built in Taiwan by the Transpacific Marine Company Ltd which was owned and run by two US owners. The boats were built for ocean cruising and offer a strong hull construction of solid hand-laid fiberglass. The interior layout offers a huge main cabin, large galley, aft master stateroom, two guest cabins, two head compartments with showers and a workroom adjacent to the engine. 

Large main salon with U-shaped settee to port with a dining table that may be lowered to convert this to a full double berth. Opposite, to starboard, is a single settee berth. Main features include:

  • Air conditioning 12K and 16K BTU
  • 3 large forward facing portlights and two large portlights on each side creating a very light and open feel to the main cabin
  • Lots of storage outboard of settees to port and starboard
  • Large bookcase, drawer and other lockers
  • Forward V-berth cabin
  • Crew quarters with upper and lower berths port side aft of forward cabin

Owner’s stateroom aft

The owner’s stateroom has a large, open feel with plenty of space and lots of light and its own private head compartment with separate shower. Features include:

  • Large hanging locker
  • 4 large drawers and two lockers

The guest head is located forward of the main cabin and opposite the side guest cabin. It includes:

Navigation table

The original Transpac 49 layout featured a stand-up outboard facing navigation table. During the 2002/2003 refit, the present owners had this reconfigured to make a forward facing sit-down navigation desk and instrument panel. The navigation area features:

  • Raymarine RC 520 chart plotter
  • Mounted Dell flat screen monitor (for use with a laptop –not included)
  • Icom M502 VHF radio
  • Icom M710 SSB radio
  • Link 2000 inverter/charger control and monitor unit
  • Watermaker control panel
  • Tank level meters

 

Passageway (to aft cabin)

The navigation table is located at the forward end of the passageway to the aft cabin. The passageway features full stand-up headroom and includes:

  • Access panel to starboard side of main engine
  • Electrical breaker panel


The vessel’s workshop and generator room is accessed via a door from the owner’s head compartment. It allows incredible access to the main engine and has the additional features:

  • Generator compartment and access
  • The vessel’s water heater is also located in the workshop area


Engine and generator have both been maintained and serviced regularly. A Reverso oil change system allows for all engine oils to be quickly and easily replaced. Engine and generator details:

  • Ford Lehman 2715E 120HP diesel engine 
  • Paragon transmission
  • Northern Lights 5KW diesel generator 


The vessel is cutter ketch rigged with rolling furling headsail gear and aft-of-mast mainsail furling gear. Other rigging features include:

I am particularly familiar with the Transpac 49 building practices they are throughout and reinforced . Transpac 49 are very high on the list of desirable world cruising sailboats.
