"Billy Pilgrim" is a nicely maintained Passport 40 which has given its current owners many years and thousands of sea miles of enjoyment since they purchased her in 2017. They have happily sailed her up and down the eastern seaboard, including a trip to the Bahamas and islands. Unfortunately, professional commitments now make it difficult to enjoy the boat as they would like, which creates a wonderful opportunity for the next owner to assume the helm.
Billy Pilgrim is one of rarer Passport 40s with the engine mounted lower in the boat allowing a larger U-shaped dinette in the main salon which comfortably seats six. Including the starboard settee, there is plenty of room for a gathering of 8 to 10 people.
It is also important to note that this Passport 40 has internal lead ballast rather than the internal iron of the previous years, resulting in increased stability and seakeeping ability.
"Billy Pilgrim" is also equipped with stainless steel dinghy davits which carries the Highfield RIB with 20 HP Yamaha outboard.
With her cutter rig, solar panels, 110 gallons of water and 75 gallons of fuel, "Billy Pilgrim" is a true ocean passage maker and is ready to take her new owners anywhere they want to go.
Specifications
The interior design of the Passport 40 gives a light, airy and open feeling and it's hard to believe that such a large living space has been designed into a 40 foot boat.
The galley is large enough for two people to move around with ease. Even the gourmet cook will find ample room for all supplies and accoutrements.
The main salon features a generous u-shaped settee to port opposite a straight settee on the starboard side. The smaller cocktail table in the u-shaped settee can be swapped out with a full sized dining table that easily seats six. The u-shaped settee also converts to a large double berth.
Immediately forward of the main salon is a large head on the port side, opposite an abundance of drawers, lockers and hanging locker on the starboard side. The head features a manual toilet, marble vanity with a stainless steel sink, and a large stall shower.
Forward of the head is the forward cabin with a v-berth and plenty of storage capacity.
Opposite the galley, on the starboard side is a large nav station with chart table, forward-facing seat and plenty of room for all the modern navigation and electronic equipment
Aft of the nav station on the starboard side is another private cabin with a large double berth, drawers and a hanging locker
As one would expect from a true blue water passage maker, the deck and cockpit were designed for the ability to sail the boat essentially from the cockpit. All lines leat to the cockpit so the boat can be sailed safely and securely behind the protection of the dodger.
Halyards and reefing lines are led to jammers and a Lewmar 40 self-tailing winch on the port side of the companionway and to another set of jammers and a Selden e40i electric winch on the starboard side of the companionway.
If desired, sheets can also be led from the primary winches on the cockpit coaming to the Selden e40i to make heavy air sail adjustments a breeze.
The cockpit itself has more than adequate space for stowage and features countoured cockpit seats and coaming tops with flush inlaid teak and a teak cockpit sole.
The foredeck features a large bow pulpit with twin anchor rollers holding both a delta and a claw anchor. Anchor handling is easy with the electric anchor windlass with both a chain gypsy and a rope gipsy operated with foot switches.
In summary, the deck arrangement is clean, functional and comfortable... and sail handling is easy!
