Specifications
Purchased in 2016 with plan to completely rebuild the hull and deck
The rebuild has resulted in a very dry, stiff hull and deck, benefitting performance in all conditions
Minor modifications made to the standard Farr 40 design spec:
- 4" increase in waterline length resulting from straightening the stem to plumb, from raked
- Increased chamfer on sheerline for enhanced crew comfort when hiking legs out
The interior was freshened with a new paint job.
The standard interior layout lends itself equally well to both day racing and distance racing
Sails include:
The rebuild/refit resulted in RASCAL being virtually a new boat - see details below
> Hull balsa core completely replaced from bow to stern
> Bow modified to plumb from raked with 4" increase in waterline length* - for aesthetic value only
> Hull then faired and longboarded
> All deck balsa core replaced with high density fibreboard
> Added gunwhale radius molded in for greater crew comfort sitting on the rail legs out*
> Hull and deck painted with Awlgrip
> Bottom sprayed with 7 coats of VC Offshore
> Interior repainted with Petit Eazypoxy
> V-berth floorboards fabricated and installed
* these changes make RASCAL ineligible for one-design racing
