It was 2002 when Peter Schmidt founded United Yacht Sales and took over the Dudley-Bessey House in Stuart, Florida as the main headquarters. This historic home was built in 1909 and sits right on the South Fork of the St. Lucie River. At the time, Peter being a 40-year marine industry veteran, had dreams of creating a professional brokerage firm with a focus on customer service for the yacht brokers on the team and trustworthy business practices.
"Our original motto was 'Earning your trust, one boat a time," said Peter. "I envisioned a company where we took customer service to new heights, clients could truly trust us, and our brokers were better supported than anywhere else. If we support the brokers better, they'll take care of their clients better."
While most big firms have their headquarters based in Fort Lauderdale, Peter chose to stay in Stuart for a number of reasons, including that it provided a central location for owners cruising north or south. UYS originated in Stuart and moved into the Dudley-Bessey house in 2013 as the company expanded. Today, United Yacht Sales has grown to more than 250 yacht brokers worldwide and has the largest network of buyers and sellers in the industry.
The location of the historic Dudley-Bessey House also puts the UYS headquarters within walking distance of the Stuart Boat Show, one of the fastest growing shows in the Southeast.
In keeping with their commitment to the Stuart-area, United Yacht Sales will now be a main sponsor of the 2023 Stuart Boat Show.
"We are thrilled to be one of the sponsors of the upcoming Stuart Boat Show in January," said Brian Boettler, CEO of United Yacht Sales. "We will have a big presence at our hometown show. In addition to our large display of brokerage yachts for sale, you won't be able to walk anywhere in the show without seeing United Yacht Sales banners, signs, and more. And of course, our main office is nearby for convenience."
Stay tuned to find out what featured yachts will be on display at the show!
