Merritt 72 Sportfish OWLS NEST Sold By United Yacht Sales

United Yacht Sales is pleased to announce the sale of OWLS NEST, a 72' Merritt Yachts Sportfish, by broker Greg Graham. Located for sale in Pompano Beach, Florida, OWLS NEST is an excellent example of a true tournament-ready, custom sportfishing boat from the esteemed shipyard that has been operating since the 1940's.  

OWLS NEST is a true custom boat that was already rigged out for sailfish," said Captain Greg Graham. "My customers plan on fishing the 2021-2022 sailfish tournament circuit and wanted a low hour, custom sportfish that had speed, power, and the best of everything." Greg is no stranger to multi-million dollar yacht sales, having closed on several such as a Mark Willis 76 and a 136 Horizon Motor Yacht.

United Yacht Sales would like to thank Roy Merritt and Greg Thomas from Merritt's Boat and Engine Works for an easy, professional transaction. Roy and Greg represented the selling party. The asking price at the time of sale was undisclosed.

The 72-foot custom boat from Merritt Yachts is powered with twin MTU 16V2000 M93 2,400HP engines that had 2,750 hours. OWLS NEST cruised comfortably in the mid 30-knot range and had a WOT speed of 41 knots.

The cockpit on the 72 Merritt OWLS NEST leaves nothing to chance in giving you the best space and equipment to fight big fish. Crew has plenty of space to move around the angler who can be seated in the custom Merritt fighting chair if desired. Fishing equipment in the cockpit includes two in-deco bait-wells, Rupp hydraulic outriggers with cameras, two Miya Epoch US-9 teaser reels, a custom cutting table, custom rocket launcher, and 4 electric reel outlets.

Two steps up from the cockpit is the custom mezzanine with air conditioning, a perfect place to watch the action unfold in total comfort. The high-gloss teak provides a rich look synonymous with luxury custom boats.

The flybridge is a captain's dream with excellent visibility, comfortable seats, and the best electronics. Some of the notable features on the flybridge include two Furuno radars, Garmin 7610 GPS, Furuno Nav Net, FLIR night vision, Simrad auto-pilot, Furuno Universal AIS, and in-throttle lever bow thruster controls. The custom-built Jack Hopewell tower also features the Furuno Nav Net and RD-20, along with Simrad auto-pilot.

Once you enter the salon doors from the cockpit, you are immediately greeted by a well-lit, open main deck salon and galley. Portside is a large wrap-around sofa with storage underneath and a custom teak coffee table. There is an entertainment center starboard side and aft, along with a single chair and bar area behind sliding doors. Forward of the salon is a dinette with seating for four people. The open galley concept connects everyone inside and features all of the best equipment to keep your hungry crew fed during a tournament.

Going forward down the companionway, to port is the master stateroom complete with a walk-around queen bed, a large double hanging locker, and an elegant ensuite head and shower. To starboard aft is the crew quarters with over/under bunks and two hanging lockers, with head and shower forward. This adjoins another stateroom with a single bunk and hanging lockers, with drawers underneath. The VIP suite is placed forward with a walk-around queen-sized bed. Two hanging lockers are to starboard and the ensuite head and shower is forward.
