Specifications

The Saga 35 was designed by Bob Perry, who is well known for other performance cruisers. The Saga 35 may be built for speed, but she is a cruiser through and through. Her near-plumb bow with massive SS bowsprit and maximized sailing length are a direct result of Mr. Perry's intentions. Under way, the Saga 35 extends her sailing waterline to over 34 feet. This longer waterline creates a yacht with the hull speed and sailing potential of a conventional 40-foot cruiser, yet the modest beam and moderately light displacement create less drag to provide the nearly effortless sailing of a smaller boat. The easily driven hull form requires less energy to attain speeds comparable to heavier, beamier cruisers. Lower loads on sails and sheets mean less stress on the boat's structure, resulting in longer life. Under sail, the Saga 35 will reel off the miles with uncommon ease. With the standard diesel engine, estimated top speed is 8 knots with 7.3 knots at normal cruise rpm. There is plenty of storage in the cockpit. To port of the helm is a propane locker for two 20-pound tanks. The cockpit lazarette is about 5 1-2 feet deep, allowing for massive amounts of storage, with steps to get in and out. To starboard, there is a vented locker for carrying a fuel can. The cockpit features 6-foot 6-inch seats for stargazing. Also, the 35 features the Saga walkout transom - no strenuous climbing up or over a coaming, simply walk out at dinghy boarding level. A transom door closes off the opening, keeping pets and kids safely on board. Molded-in foot braces make the crew comfortable even when heeled. There are six opening ports, all of which are stainless steel, and four overhead hatches, providing excellent ventilation. Stainless steel grab rails run the length of the coachhouse - a low maintenance bonus, but also an important safety feature. Other safety features are the 30-inch lifelines (24 inch is standard) and safety harness padeyes in the cockpit. Down below, the interior is soft and cozy. All joinery is hand crafted, hand rubbed, and satin varnished in cherry wood. Soft fabrics give the cabin a luxurious feel. As with the Saga 43, the narrow beam is not evident below as the 35 is styled with the same principles as her larger sister. The 6-foot 5-inch headroom and open concept saloon is both practical and efficient for offshore sailing and dockside entertaining. The navigation - chart table and electrical panel are at the end of the starboard settee. Behind the fold-down panel, the wiring is numbered to correspond with a maintenance reference that identifies and describes its function. The galley is U-shaped with a three burner stove in center. There is counter space, an ice box with an optional freezer - refrigerator, and plenty of shelves and drawers for storage. The galley has a foot pump, although hot and cold pressure water is standard. The aft cabin is located on the starboard side of the boat. This cabin offers great standing headroom in the area immediately in front of the bunk and one cedar-lined hanging locker. The V-berth is roomy. The 52-inch wide bunk is 6-feet 4-inches at its shortest point and 7-feet 6-inches at its longest point. Deep, long shelves run along the hull and there is a large cedar-lined hanging locker. A small cushioned bench beside the bunk is stylish, and doubles as a good seat for those getting dressed. The head is accessed through the saloon or the V-berth, which helps maintain some privacy when there are guests on board. The head is equipped with a standard sink, toilet, large mirror, and a roomy cupboard for storage. The shower boasts a separate shower stall with a semicircular acrylic shower door on tracks. The head module is a one-piece molded fiberglass shell, designed with minimum trim or dirt catching corners, providing a seamless sanitary unit that is a cinch to clean.
