1987 Vripack 72 Sea Hunter

The award-winning world-class Yacht Design and Naval Architectural firm, Vripack, has created over 7,500 designs since it was founded in the early 1960s by Dick Boon. Based in The Netherlands, Vripack provides professional design and development services to private customers and shipyards all over the world. The entire Vripack team is involved start-to-finish in the building process of its innovative designs. The Sea Hunter convertible sportfishing yachts hull first built as a high speed 70-footer, was tank tested by an internationally renowned marine hydrodynamics expert and verified for performance as calculated. The Sea Hunters, designed by Dick Boon, were built for the American market to Lloyds standards in aluminum to the highest levels of Dutch quality, exterior and interior. Currently Vripack has a 171ft 6-deck sportfish superyacht in production. Set to become the world’s first and largest true sportfish yacht, it is being built by the world-renowned Dutch shipyard, Royal Huisman, completely of premium aluminum. Like the 72 Vripack Sea Hunter, she has the proportions and long high flaring bow of a typical American custom luxury sportfish yacht, complete with triple spreader outriggers!


The 1987 Vripack 72 Sea Hunter is an enclosed bridge model, providing a second level “salon” area for relaxing and entertaining in air-conditioned comfort and its own wet bar. She features a tuna tower, outriggers, joystick steering, bow thrusters and much more. Powered with twin 1650 hp MTU direct drive diesels designed for efficient fuel consumption with increased power output in a “power range that could previously only be served by larger and heavier engines.” MTU diesel engines typically power the largest yachts and strongest tugboats. The Vripack 72 Sea Hunter’s bow (including pulpit), foredeck and sides to midships feature a safety railing, not usually a feature of tournament sportfish boats, but appreciated by a cruising family. Currently, she is purposed for cruising and entertaining, but her large cockpit can easily convert this Vripack 72 Sea Hunter to a serious fishing machine!
