2010 Chris White Atlantic Cat 48, LILLY

Founded in 1983, Chris White Designs specializes in high-performance cruising catamarans. The sloop rigged Atlantic 48 sailing catamaran was designed to proven yacht design principles and engineered to exacting standards for performance, structural integrity, and for small crew handling in comfort underway. Chris White catamarans have an excellent safety record, with an indoor pilothouse for watchkeeping, watertight collision bulkheads, and the innovative forward cockpit for excellent forward sightlines with the ability to duck back into the pilothouse in weather. Deep-Vee sectional bows make abrupt landings in heavy seas as soft as possible. With the shallow 3’2” draft when the daggerboards are raised, LILLY can anchor in atolls that would be impossible for other sailing vessels.

LILLY is a dual voltage (230v/50Hz and 125v/60Hz) yacht with global shore power capability and the patented SmartPlug shore power connection system that doesn’t require twisting, plugs straight in (fits only one way and can be connected at night with minimal effort), locks, and with 3 weatherproof seals, provides greater protection against corrosion, which is the leading cause of shore power failure and fires! LILLY also features EPA compliant Volvo D2-40 inboard saildrive engines installed in 2019.

Fast, seaworthy, and simple to handle, with a comfortable 3 cabin/2 head layout, the Chris White Atlantic Cat 48 is a proven trans-oceanic voyager, as many owners have attested in the videos and blogs of their seafaring adventures.

As of January 2023, Lilly is brand new to the market.

She is currently lying in Ensenada, Mexico and is seriously for sale.

Asking price is US $739,000!

Lilly…is an outstanding example of the proven, Chris White Atlantic 48 design. She was built by Southern Cape Yacht Builders in Cape Town, South Africa, with custom features; Epoxy, triaxial glass, and Herex PVC foam core construction; Carbon fiber beams and spars, and custom carbon fiber mast, boom and longeron, all make for a very strong, rigid, and light weight structure and rig. A sailor's boat, frisky on the wind, very sea-kindly, and exceptionally well-suited for long, offshore voyages. Lilly enjoys the benefits of a proven high-performance design along with many recent additions and upgrades, to her sails and rigging, electrical system, and much more. The result is a very capable and comfortable offshore cruiser with updated systems, sophisticated appointments, and easier operations. She is…

Fresh, long-legged and ready to go and now, available for your inspection and offer to purchase.

An Extensive Re-Fit was started by the previous/original owner in 2019 with New Volvo 40HP Engines (replaced by Volvo under an emissions recall). New Kevlar shrouds were installed, some paint repairs were done and new batteries were installed in 2021. Starting in late 2021, the current owner greatly enhanced the yacht with the purpose of modernizing the proven configuration by replacing any worn equipment with the benefit of newer technologies and functions. The result is a fresh and sporty feeling yacht, with a little more sophisticated and gentle set of demands on the crew.

The New Jib and Forestay are now roller furling, and the starboard cockpit winch was motorized to make furling the jib a push button affair. The main halyard was re-rigged to include a Karver Gaff Lock that provides the release of the head of the New Square-topped Mainsail, allowing the top panel of the main to be stowed down in the stack-pac without having to climb the mast steps.

A New 125-volt Electrical system, from Smart Shore Cord to Mastervolt Inverter/Charger to a network of outlets with GFI protection and USB A&C connections, was installed to provide 60Hz shore power (the Americas) compatibility. Lilly is now a "Dual-Voltage" yacht with shore power compatibility around the world.

You will notice her powerful response…each time the wind stiffens up a bit. She was originally launched in September of 2010 and spent her first decade cruising from South Africa to the Caribbean, then to Australia and the South Pacific, Hawaii, and then to Seattle, WA. She was purchased by her second, and current owner there, and has spent the last two years getting extensive upgrades and enhancements and has cruised Puget Sound, The San Juan Islands, and the US west coast south to Ensenada, Mexico.

A new lifestyle for this owner makes this fresh and long-legged offshore cruiser available, and a unique opportunity to get sailing and cruising right away.

The Chris White Atlantic 48…is known to be an exceptional offshore cruiser and has earned much praise from experienced owner’s, crew, and delivery skippers. Designed by Chris White to be a high-performance, long-distance and efficient cruiser, She has straight forward systems and is easily operated shorthanded, or even solo, and comes with a reputation for getting there fast. The layout comfortably accommodates two couples in nearly identical port and starboard midship cabins, with a third, single berth cabin in the starboard bow. A generous galley, salon/pilothouse, and workshop, all together make spending time aboard easy and comfortable, even if the weather drives you inside.

The Forward Cockpit, is a sailor’s playpen. Where you can feel the breeze on your skin and watch how the white caps feather off the tips of the sea. And, have great visibility of the sails, your instruments, and the upcoming weather. You really get an acute sense of the conditions for fine tuning the rig and course.

All your sail, autopilot, navigation, and engine controls are right there within arm’s reach. You seldom need to venture out of this secure, comfortable, and well protected space. But once the sails are trimmed, and/or if the weather gets nasty, the interior pilothouse is just a couple of steps aft, through the weather tight door.

Best of all, I think the forward cockpit is a unique and precious space to have on a boat this large. A place where you can still have a relatively close, even intimate connection to, and view of, the sea and all she brings with her.

Built at Southern Cape Yachtbuilders and launched in September of 2010. Hulls, decks, pilot house and major bulkheads are constructed from epoxy resin and tri-axial glass laminate cored with Herex PVC marine grade foam. Primary circuits for winches, autopilot, lighting, refrigeration, pumps, fans, etc. are 24-volt DC and controlled by the CZone Touch10 Display/Control Panel and Digital Switch NMEA 2000 Network (New 2021). This new system also offers onboard wireless monitor and control through your smart device and remote monitor and control of some circuits via Siren Marine Monitor via the internet. Additional 24-volt and 12-volt circuits are controlled at the Blue Seas Breaker Panels in the workshop Electrical Panel. The 24-volt system is charged by solar panels on the cabin top, high output alternators on both engines, and either 125-volt 60Hz, or 230-volt 50Hz shore power.

There are now two alternating current systems onboard: The original "Euro-Style" 230-volt 50Hz system, with Mastervolt Inverter/Charger, shore power connections, isolator, inlet breaker, distribution panel with circuits and 230-vold outlets, remains. And a complete, new, 125-volt 60Hz system with Inverter/Charger shore power connections, isolator, inlet breaker with distribution panel, circuits and 125-volt outlets has been installed. Each system supplies its respective voltage to a network of outlets and circuits throughout the vessel. Power comes from shore connections or, from the 24-volt House battery bank, via either inverter. This gives the operator the option to plug into shore power around the globe (230 50Hz and 125 60Hz) and operate appliances on either voltage onboard via the inverters and network of outlets. The IsoTherm electric water heater is currently configured for 125-volt service; in the event the vessel travels to a 230-volt 50Hz geographic zone, it would require the heating element to be switched back to the 230-volt. 230-volt circuit and heating element are existing and aboard.

Electrical Equipment:

  • CZone Touch10 Display/Control Panel with NMEA 2000 Digital Switching Network
  • 24-Volt circuit breakers controlled from CZone Touch 10 Control Panel and/or wireless smart device
  • Mastervolt 230-volt 50Hz Inverter/Charger
  • Mastervolt 125-volt 60Hz Inverter/Charger
  • Batteries: Four 200 Amp-hour at 12-volts gel batteries, (NEW 2021)
  • Separate AGM engine start batteries for each engine
  • (4) Solar Panels, 205 watt output each
  • Each engine has 2 alternators. 1 for the starter battery and 1 high output Mastervolt 24/95C (95Amp) Alpha alternator for the house batteries
  • Siren Marine Monitor, for remote monitoring of critical systems
  • LED lighting throughout

Full Disclosure:

It is believed that the 230-volt 50Hz inverter has been damaged by attempts to power it with 240-volt 60Hz (US shore power). It is advised to inspect and likely repair or replace this 230-volt 50Hz inverter before traveling to a 230-volt 50Hz region and connecting to shore power.

There is a wind generator installed but inoperable. It should be removed, repaired, or replaced.
