The Californian 34 Long Range Cruiser is a classic styled trawler introduced by Marshall Boat Company in the 1970's and was a domestic alternative to the imported trawler industry. Californians are noted for their all fiberglass construction and their very solid build.


"Downunder" has two staterooms, a single head and separate stall shower, nice salon and galley-up, mahogany woodwork, large opening salon windows, pilothouse door, lower and upper helm stations, wide walk around decks with solid high bulwarks, functional cockpit and a large flybridge. She is a great family cruiser that sleeps six.


"Downunder" has twin Perkins 6-354M 135hp diesels which are miserly on fuel, providing a cruising speed of 8-10 knots. Her current owner did a major upgrade in 2001 to make "Downunder" independent of shore connection for long periods while cruising in the remote Bahamas. That upgrade included a new 8kw generator, increased battery capacity, inverter, trim tabs, propane stove, microwave, windlass (rebuilt 2019), Sea Recovery Watermaker, hinged engine room hatches and much more. In 2006, a fuel polishing system was added, and complete top to bottom awlgrip paint. In addition, she has a new refrigerator/freezer (2019), custom hinged cockpit sunshade (2012), and in 2018 new Bimini and Flybridge cushions.

Starting from forward is a chain locker divided into two sections. Next is a full-size V-Berth with storage shelf above port berth. Storage beneath the berths and drawers. Following to port by a second double cabin. Across to starboard is a head with a separate enclosed shower. Up three steps to the main salon, there is a lower helm to starboard with sliding door opening to the side deck. The linear galley is along the starboard salon. To port forward is a full-size futon (2003) followed by a cabinet for a refrigerator/freezer (2019). Double sliding doors lead to a roomy cockpit with a cockpit dining table and two chairs. There is ladder access to the flybridge with upper helm station and L-Shaped guest seating.

The sole in the salon was replaced with Teak and Holly (2001). The forward cabins are Teak and Holly vinyl flooring (2017). Five large, hinged opening hatches in the sole make the engine room equipment totally accessible. The large salon window slide open. Double sliding doors open to the cockpit.

The linear galley is along the starboard side of the salon and is open and airy with 360 degree view, good counter space and generous drawers. All Formica countertops are new (2003), Princess two-burner propane stove (2001), double stainless-steel sink with hot and cold pressurized water, and microwave. Aft on the port side is a cabinet containing a refrigerator/freezer (12V-110V) (2019).
