Brad McClelland

Professional Yacht Broker

Brad McClelland has been working in the yacht sales and service industry for over thirty years. A native of Virginia, Brad’s career started with a three year boat building program building wooden Downeast style lobster boats, Chesapeake Bay Deadrise work boats and wooden boat repairs.

Brad then moved on into the service end of the industry as a finish carpenter and rigger in Hampton, Va. with a local sailboat dealer that sold Cal, O’Day and Pearson sailboats. His responsibilities were new boat commissioning and service related repairs. After a couple of years Brad took a service manager position with the renowned Zimmerman Marine in Cardinal, VA, another quality Downeast boat builder and service yard founded by Steve Zimmerman.

After 10 years of service with Zimmerman Marine, Brad moved to Sarasota, Fl. and was offered a sailboat dealership with Sabre Yachts, one of the finest New England boat builders known for their Downeast tradition, reputation of quality and craftsmanship.

To enhance his career, Brad took a sales position in Jupiter, Florida selling new Sabre and Back Cove Yachts and is now partnered with United Yacht Sales.

“Brad helped me sell 2 boats and purchase 2 boats. He is patient, honest, thorough, fair and ethical. Communication has always been critical with us during a purchase. He followed up locally by helping us manage our boats through the years of our boat ownership. His background makes him extremely knowledgeable of the systems, their functions and their maintenance. His relationship of subcontractors has been helpful in selling my boats. I will be calling Brad to sell my boat for his help. Until then I will be calling him to help manage the maintenance that comes up and his advice moving forward.”

“For many years I dreamt that one day I would buy a boat and spend many years boating in the waters of Florida.  Once I purchased a residence, the search for the right boat began. It soon became apparent that I needed an honest professional as to someone focused on me finding the right product rather than just showing me the available listings – someone that understood construction, handling, equipment and value. Although I met Brad by chance, his knowledge and integrity surfaced in the purchase of my first boat, a decision I never regretted. When it came time to sell after relying on Brad for helping me manage my ownership through my purchase of my first boat I once again relied on Brad to be my broker. Receiving an offer in less than 10 days and close again convinced me that Brad’s knowledge of the boating industry and his integrity would allow me to recommend him without hesitation to my fellow Sarasota Yacht Club members."

“As you know, the Mainship 34 Pilot has left the Keys and now probably in Stuart, FL. Thanks to you, this has taken a lot of your effort on your part. If not for you this boat would still be at our backyard dock. From the time we listed it with you and she sold you must have put a ton of miles on your car to be here in the Keys for us. We have bought and sold many boats in our 60 years of boating and have had quite a few brokers along the way. I can say the way you responded as you did from coming down here and helping get her ready for survey and sea trials. For this we sincerely thank you. In the future if we need someone to help us buy or list one we will be calling on you for the wonderful service that you offer as a boat broker. If wee need someone to help us buy a boat or list one, we will be calling on you for your service. Nancy and I thank you."

“I want to thank you again for all your help you have been in locating boats for me and assisting me in checking the boats amendments and satisfying the survey requirements. I have used many brokers in the past, but I’ve never experienced the service which you provided from inception to the purchase  and taking possession of a boat.”

"I am pleased to recommend Brad McClelland. I have had many experiences with yacht brokers during my 60 year affliction to boating. Most of those experiences were less than pleasant, some even felonious. Brad has changed my opinion and stands out as the best yet. I met Brad while shopping for my latest boat, a Back Cove 29. He fairly represented his seller, while being totally forthcoming about the condition and facts of the boat. He facilitated the negotiation and survey promptly and professionally. Since closing Brad continues to be a great help completing the list of deficiencies noted in the survey. He is now my go to professional regarding all my boat issues. He manages the boat during our seasonal absence. I have complete confidence that she is in good trustworthy hands. So if you are looking for an honest straightforward professional to work with you, Brad is the best."

- Mike Magruder, 2007 Back Cove 29 “Patronus”, Cape Coral, FL

I have known Brad McClelland for 20 years.  I ordered a new Sabre 402 through his dealership.  My experience was flawless.  He worked with me to select the appropriate options for my sailing needs.  He kept me informed and closely  involved throughout the construction, commissioning and delivery process. He was regularly available throughout my first two years of ownership. We developed a friendship that remains today.

Brad is honest, fair and extremely knowledgeable.  He is action oriented and very timely.  He has warm relationships with brokers and dealers from Florida to Maine.   My wife and I are starting to explore the purchase of a motor yacht and this is why we chose him to help us with that process.
