36 Islander 1979 Details:
Refit in 2013, this Islander 36 is the one to see. The interior wood was removed from the boat, sanded, re-stained and re-varnished. New upholstery, headliner, wallpaper, and beautiful and carpets make this 36 like new! The engine was replaced in 2009 with a Westerbeke and now has been completely renewed with new paint and shows only 60 hours of use. The sails have been examined and re-worked with new stitching and sun protection and the genoa furling has new bearings! NO DISAPPOINTMENTS and she will show even better than the photos.
All interior woodwork is solid teak with bulkheads, furniture and joinery trim matching beautifully. There is Formica on the galley countertop and new Formica on the head countertops and walls. The wood doors are louvered below and any doors above the counter have cane inserts. There are multiple grab rails and thick upholstery seating and mattresses. The berths are 6’ 6” long while the port side settee is 6’2” long.
A proven performer! The internationally known designer, Alan Gurney met the goals of Islander Yachts to the letter with the Islander 36 as a competitive machine that will also cruise your family and guests comfortably.
The 36 is easy to handle under any conditions, you can control her with one hand on the wheel at 30 knots! The mast is stepped to the keel and the genoa sheeting angle is optimized with 2 sets of genoa track. The T-shaped cockpit is large enough to enable your crew to relax and trim sails easily and quickly. For the cockpit you get an unobstructed view of the sails and foredeck. There is even a recessed heel-kick beneath each seat (now you finally have some place to brace your legs!)
An 11’2” beam adds greatly to the stability and ease of sail handling, to say nothing of the huge and comfortable interior! That is a story is itself. The paneling is real teak-all of it. And note the hide away and folding dinette table. By doing away with the stationary table, the 36 added a lot more living space for you and your guests to enjoy. Other features include the large storage areas, sizable and comfortable galley, and the wonderful natural light and ventilation. The cabin height is 6’5” throughout.
The 36 is Islander quality throughout with hand laid fiberglass construction and the deck is bolted to the hull. The craftsman is beautiful and the fit and finishing outstanding.
